As a jobseeker, you go through a process. The learning you need is defined by where you are in the process. When you need to write a CV, it's the CV itself that you'll want to learn more about. However, when you later in the process have an interview, the CV is uninteresting.
This video course follows the principles of nanolearning. In practice, this means that those taking the course can learn in small chunks, adapted to their immediate needs.
The course content consists of 7 video modules, each between 7 and 15 minutes long. Each video is tailored to the different steps in the job-seeking process a person must go through to find a new employer.
Module Descriptions
1. Job Seeking Preparation – What Do You Want?
It can be difficult to figure out what you want. Nevertheless, it is important that you try to map out your own motivation, both because it will be easier for others to help you, and because it is important for getting the job. In this module, you will learn a model for assessing whether a potential job is right for you, as well as two exercises for mapping out what you want and what you are good at.
2. Preparing for your job search – Understanding the employer
To get a job, an employer must understand that you are right for the job. To succeed in this, you must understand how employers think. In this module, you will learn about the three questions all employers ask themselves – regardless of the job you are applying for.
3. Preparing for your job hunt – Understanding the role
When you're first applying for a job, you need to know what the job is about. In this module, you'll learn why this is so important, and a method for analysing job advertisements to find answers to your questions.
4. CV guide
The CV is the most important document in a job application. But should you include a photo? And which CV template should you use? In this module, you will learn what good CV templates have in common, and which pitfalls to avoid when writing your own CV.
5. CV Customisation
Your CV should be tailored to the job you are applying for. In this module, you will learn how to tailor experience descriptions and key qualifications, and how to write them in a convincing way. You will also get an overview of the important points to check before you send your CV.
6. The application letter
The application letter can be a nightmare to write. This module teaches you which classic application errors to avoid, what points to focus on in your application, and provides some good examples of how to write better text in your application.
7. Preparation for the interview
What should you know before attending a job interview? In these modules, you will learn what distinguishes the best interview candidates, and what you should consider carefully before the interview. You will learn why examples should be used as part of the answer to interview questions, and what you should be aware of regarding body language in an interview.
