Kongsberg Renewables Technologies
The climate crisis has accelerated a comprehensive energy transition. For the world to reach the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, it will be necessary to succeed in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, in addition to developing effective methods for carbon capture and storage. This requires the rapid development of large amounts of renewable energy, and establishment of efficient solutions for energy conversion, as well as the storage, transport, and use of renewable energy.
The energy transition will create new value chains within the following main categories:
- Upstream: Energy production
- Midstream: Conversion, storage, and transport of energy
- Downstream: Energy use and emission management
The energy transition and the development of new value chains will again result in a significant increase in demand for new technology and raw materials. Businesses and authorities need help for extensive industrialisation and streamlining of the new value chains, while meeting safety and environmental requirements.
In many of these areas, the technology group KONGSBERG has very good abilities for leading and developing competitive solutions. KONGSBERG is a leader in ocean space technology, and we see that also within industrial processes and digitalisation we can make a significant contribution to the energy transition.
This involves, among other things, further developing and drawing on the world-leading expertise KONGSBERG has in marine operations, maritime logistics, underwater sensors and robotics, surface and satellite-based monitoring, process monitoring, control and automation, as well as digitalisation. With this as a starting point, KONGSBERG has the ambition to take leading positions in the global energy transition, across technologies and value chains, and in all phases – from start to finish.
Kongsberg Renewables Technologies has been established as a strategic initiative to materialise this ambition. We will be a driving force for development and investment along three axes:
- Use our domain expertise to identify and facilitate new initiatives originating in our existing business areas and synergies across these.
- Enter partnerships or investments together with other businesses that can provide us with new domain knowledge, better market access or increased scaling power.
- Acquire all or parts of other companies, primarily as an industrial owner with a longer time horizon and great execution power.
Kongsberg Renewables Technologies will assess opportunities in several industry verticals and value chains, both close to our existing expertise, but also in areas where we can add new expertise through partnerships and acquisitions. A priority from the start will be offshore wind, where we see great opportunities using our leading position in ocean space technology.
Kongsberg Renewables Technologies employs some of our most experienced technologists and business developers. We are now looking for several talented colleagues who are looking for exciting opportunities in a small organisation with little bureaucracy, close to decision-makers, and in close cooperation with the other business areas in KONGSBERG.
In collaboration with the business areas Kongsberg Maritime, Kongsberg Discovery, Kongsberg Digital, and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, we have a unique starting point when we seek new investment opportunities and growth within the energy transition.
KONGSBERG has more than 200 years of experience with transition. We will continue to contribute to solving both the climate and environmental crisis and further develop KONGSBERG as a significant player also in the business world of the future
